North-South Partnership
for Children in Remote First Nations Communities
"If we had the resources to make life
better for our children, we would seek to realize our dreams
for them. A poor life can lead to desolation, hopelessness,
crime, loss of culture, loss of identity, and in many cases,
suicide."
- Noah Chapman,
Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug, June 2006
The North-South Partnership for Children, a
group of 12 voluntary organizations and 30 First Nations communities,
have identified urgent needs in 30 First Nations communities.
To improve the quality of life for their children, our northern
partners need resources and expertise to provide housing and
other essentials for life in cold climate, to create recreation
and skills training programs for youth, and to help communities
heal from within. To learn about the needs and how you can
get involved in caring for children in remote First Nations
communities, please see www.northsouthpartnership.com
or email advocacy@northsouthpartnership.com.
"It sets the right example of what community
engagement in child welfare can look like." Cindy
Blackstock, Executive Director, First Nations Child and
Family Caring Society of Canada
